The Centro Integralmente Planeado (CIP, Integrally Planned Center) is the largest tourist project of the current federal administration and is going to be built in Escuinapa, Sinaloa (60 miles from Mazatlan). The CIP will be twice bigger than Cancún (a surface of 2,381 hectares and a capacity of 44,200 hotel rooms). There is ecological risk as it is going to be located next to Marismas Nacionales (National Marshes), the main mangrove system in the mexican Pacific (10% of total Mexico’s mangroves). A place considered a wetland of world significance (Ramsar site 7). In 2009, Cemda (Mexican Center for Environmental Rights) and Greenpeace presented a formal complaint before PROFEPA (Enviromental Protection Federal Agency) about this matter.
